CROCS

Maybe I'm not one to talk here. My friends are always making fun of my completely inappropriate and impractical sartorial choices, especially when it comes to footwear. I understand that people want to dress for comfort and practicality, but this is surely a step too far! I'm talking about CROCS. Those brightly coloured plastic shoes that are so inexplicably popular here in Berkeley! I see whole families wearing them, and admittedly they are quite adorable on babies and little kids, but I don't understand why any self-respecting adult would allow themselves to be seen out and about in these. I really do not get it! Are they really that comfortable? And what is the point of the plastic? It can't be to keep water out because they are full of holes and open at the back. I have spotted the odd pair of CROCS back in Ireland but it's nowhere near as widespread as in Berkeley, where it's an epidemic! What do you think - am I missing something here? Will they ever catch on in Europe, or have they already done so while I've been away?!

Crocs are hideous and revolting. The only possible reason for all those people wearing them is comfort and practicality. They slip on easy and you forget that they are on (until you slip on wet pavement). ;-)

But yeah they are hideous!

Actually, there are extremely popular in Europe too (maybe not so much in rainy winters, ok). I suppose the matter is only fashion, otherwise, why should you pay so much a piece of plastic?
I never tried them on,so I can't talk about their comfort.
But I can't understand how doctors and nurses choose them as workshoes, being full of holes that can get filled of different interesting materials, among which blood is still the luckiest one you can have.

price is not the problem, in my opinion. Havaianas in europe cost a lot but they worth it. Crocs are so bad looking...i just dont like adults wearing crocks..

Anyway, I heard that the company is bankrupt because their shoes are so durable that nobody buys the second pair. Goodbye Crocs?!

Really?! A victim of their own success. That's actually quite sad (though obviously I will not be sorry to see the back of them....)

They are huge in Europe yes! Specially in Germany! And I agreee... I never got why they are so famous. I remember the first time I saw it on a magazine it was saying that it has a articular shape that you exercises many different muscles from you leg, and that 30 min walking on it, does the same as 1 hour running with it.... bullshit of course!!!! But if it was true I would definitely buy them to shape my legs! hahahah

The basic clog design seems to be popular in some northern European countries - they are definitely big in Denmark and Sweden as a sort of casual outdoor shoe (you slip them on to take the garbage out etc) and some older people tend to wear them to go down to the shops ... but those clogs are elegant (usually just black or white from Dansko, for example www.dansko.com) compared to Crocs ...
